Summary: The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for
coordinating and delivering patient care services under the direct
supervision of the Shift Supervisor or Med/Surg RN. Work Schedule:
4-12-hour shifts per pay period; 6-week rotation Qualifications:
Nursing Assistant with current Wisconsin Certification or the
ability to obtain prior to the start date. BLS certified. Prefer 1
year Med/Surg or hospital experience. Responsibilities include:
Observes, collects, and documents patient information obtained
while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the
patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician. Assist
patients with routine activities of daily living (ADL) such as
bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation as
outlined in plan of care Maintains an effective clinical work
environment including but not limited to cleaning the work area,
changing linens, maintaining and monitoring supply levels, and
transporting patients / specimens throughout hospital. Assist
patients and their families during admission to the clinical area,
orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and
discharge. Provides care/ treatments to patients as outlined in
plan of care including, but not limited to: Monitoring of vital
signs Measurement of height and weight Specimen collection Catheter
care Capillary blood glucose checks Range-of-motion exercises Drain
care Ensures competency in all required skills and completes
competency assessment annually per the documented competency
checklist. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Perform essential
functions of a Certified Nursing Assistant Effectively participate
in the interdisciplinary care team Develop and maintain effective
working relationships with patients, family members, and team
members Effectively handle stress Convey empathy and compassion
Effective time management and organizational skills Adheres to set
policies and procedures Astute observation skills Excellent verbal
and written communication Maintain confidentiality per OMC policy
Provide age appropriate and culturally appropriate care Perform
additional duties on an as needed basis Physical Requirements for
the Role: Heavy Lifting & Transferring: Ability to lift at least 50
lbs independently or with assistance, including moving patients
from beds to wheelchairs, toilets, or stretchers. Stamina &
Mobility: Standing and walking for 8-12 hour shifts, with frequent
bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical
Strength: Strong upper body and back muscles to support patients,
reposition them in bed, and assist with daily living activities.
Manual Dexterity: High level of dexterity for tasks like taking
blood pressure, changing bandages, feeding, and grooming. Sensory
Abilities: Acute vision (including depth perception and
close/distance vision) and hearing to monitor patient safety,
detect changes in condition, and understand instructions. Work
Environment: The med/surg unit is a fast-paced, high-acuity
environment with high emotional intensity where you will care for
patients with diverse, complex, and rapidly changing conditions.
The workload can be heavy, so we focus on creating a
multi-disciplinary, team-oriented environment to ensure patient
centered care. There is the potential for exposure to infectious
patients, harmful physical agents, and hazardous or toxic
